My son played travel exclusively this past summer. This year they were allowed to use a "big barrel" bat at their tournaments. Since he had never played at this level before he did not have a big barrel bat, and with kids if he didn't have the latest greatest how in the world was he ever going to hit the ball? That's sarcasm of course, but to a 10 year old the difference in confidence of a new bat can make a world of difference. I was shocked to see the price of some of the bats out there - this one is definitely on the low end of the price scale. He liked the way it looked and felt in his hands, and dad was VERY happy about that considering there were $200 and $300 bats on the rack next to it.

The first time he used it the bat felt a little "buzzy" in his hands. You could hear it too when he'd hit the ball - just a little bit of a different sound. We ended up playing soft toss against the backstop to help the bat break in, and around 90 or 100 hits the bat stopped being buzzy and responded with a nice, solid sound when hitting the ball. When you break the bat in, make sure to rotate the bat 1/8 of a turn in your hands after each hit.

That same day I used the bat to hit outfield practice - I was shocked how the ball jumped off this bat! There is a lot of pop in this bat...the ball just takes off and with the large sweet spot and oversized barrel making solid contact is much easier.

Once the season started three other kids used the bat for batting practice and also in games. One kid liked the bat better than his $300+ DeMarini, much to the dismay of his father. The amount of hits on this bat throughout the season was amazing - once a week batting practice, scrimmages, and tournaments almost every weekend with 4 kids using it. The use it got was unreal. On top of that it was used for outfield practice on several occassions. If I had to put a ballpark figure on the number os hits, I'd say somewhere between 1,400 and 1,600 hits.

At the end of the season the bottom line is this - no dents, no cracks, no torn grip. This bat is a tank. There are chips and scuffs on the paint, but no major flaking or peeling. This bat more than paid for itself and then some. Hats off to Easton for making a great bat at an affordable price.

If someone forced me to come up with a con of this bat, it would be the weight. Some kids that are smaller or not strong might have trouble with the weight of the bat being a 8.5 drop. The 28 inch weighs 19.5 oz - not a ton but I could see where some kids who were used to swinging a 17 or 18 oz bat did not have the bat speed with this one.
