This is a custom hand made Black Holster for the Sig Sauer P229/P229R Item #0012. This holster was made for Inside the Waistband, it has 1.5" Belt Loops. This holster is made for the right hand shooter, left available as a custom order. We use 7 to 8 oz. premium leather, wet molded to fit the gun. Our recommended wearing position is 3:30 - 4:00; positioning the front of the holster with the side seam of your pants, the back of the holster towards your back pocket.

If you're looking for a good leather holster in a reasonable price range, this is a good start. I'm currently trying out multiple holsters for my chosen carry piece and I currently have this one on my hip for testing.

Weapon fit out of the box is as good as any leather holster I've tried so far. The holster comes with instructions on how to properly fit the holster if it's a bit tight. It comes in a plastic bag which is perfect for wrapping the weapon in and inserting it into the holster to give just a little extra stretch. Per instructions, leave the weapon in the holster so wrapped for a few hours, overnight if particularly tight, and it should take care of the tightness. Or you can just use it/wear it. It conforms to the weapon pretty much perfectly, from what I can see, and even has the slide serrations embossed into the inside of the holster leather.

Leather quality is about average from what I have to compare with. The leather is hard and not particularly flexible. I think it will loosen up nicely with time, but should also help with maintaining rigidity for easy insertion/removal of the weapon itself. It is essentially bare leather inside and out, with no grain to it noticeable and painted edges (if I'm judging this correctly). I'm not sure exactly, but I would guess that it's "Genuine Leather" which is third grade leather (vs. full grain or top grain leathers, which are first and second respectively). It is smooth on the inside where the weapon is cradled, and is smooth also on the side facing your body. It doesn't seem to be quite as good quality leather as a Bianchi holster, for example, but is certainly good enough. There are no retention features on this holster other than the custom fit, so the smooth leather inside may turn out to be a problem if held upside down as the weapon may fall right out.

Fit to body/clothing is good. Ride height is a bit on the high side, higher than a Bianchi IWB hip holster, for example. This means it's a bit easier to access your wallet in your back pocket and your car keys in your front, but at the cost of the weapon riding high and being more exposed. The belt loops have snaps, so you can put this on and take it off without having to take your belt off. There are two loops, which means twice the chance of it interfering with the belt loops on your pants, but they are thinner than most holster clips, so that helps offset that issue considerably. It has a non-adjustable forward-tilting "FBI" cant to it, which I like. This is NOT a "tuckable" holster, which means you cannot tuck your shirt in around it to conceal it. Therefore you will need an untucked shirt or jacket with longer tail to cover this one. Thus you have to "dress to the gun" more with this one.

Overall, I get the sense that this will be a solid holster for anyone not looking to spend a whole lot of money but wanting a long-lived, dependable, fairly comfortable holster. There are other options in this price range that are just as good, though, so other factors such as style, sweat shields, suede non-slip backings against the body, retention features, etc. may push you towards other brands.
