Salomon SNS Pilot Sport Classic Binding Review

They come as a pair. I combined them with Salomon Snowscape 7 skis and Salomon Escape 7 Pilot CF ski boots. The vendor accidently shipped me the women's version but the only difference is they are gray instead of black.

You can mount the bindings yourself but it takes care. You will need some glue (I used E6000 industrial adhesive), two small flat-head screws that are smaller than the mounting screws, a screwdriver for the small screws, a #3 Philips screwdriver for the mounting screws, and a 3.5mm drill bit.

The Snowscape 7 skis have a small white Salomon logo at the balance point. If your skis are not marked then balance them on a straight edge (ruler, metal book-end) and mark them. The SNS bindings have a plastic mounting plate with a small groove indicating where they need to line up with the balance point. The groove lines up with the forward boot bar clip of the binding when it is fully mounted to the plate. You need to drill only the length of the mounting screw shafts. Put tape on the bit to mark the depth. The top of the ski is thin plastic and you will drill through quickly with minimal pressure. The core of the ski is very soft and the bit will punch through it like tissue so be careful.

Line up the mounting plate groove with the balance point, centered (and straight) along the ski. Mark the holes with a center punch, drill carefully, and then temporarily mount the plate with the two small screws. It's easier to drill the first hole then put in a small screw to hold that end while you mark and drill the other holes. Attach the binding to the plate (slide it on firmly so it's fully on), mark the remaining two holes, then drill them. Remove the binding and plate. Put glue down the holes (use a small wire or nail to get it in and coat the sides of the holes). With the E6000 or similar glue (like Goop) if the glue makes a mess, wipe it off, let it dry for a minute or so, then rub the excess off with your finger (it beads up like an eraser). Mount the plate and binding with the large mounting screws. Tighten the screws snugly but don't force them as they have very little plastic to bite into (using the smaller screws to mount the plate temporarily avoids reducing the grip of the large screws in the holes later). Let the skis set for at least 24 hours in a warm area so the glue cures fully before use.
