The metal clip allows the holster to be canted slightly to adjust for comfort and retains the holster in the pants. These are the first in a series of holster we are now making with a stay open top. We have all our holsters with a double layer of leather at the top to stay open to assist in single handed reholstering. However, we now put a steel reinforcement in between the leather to hold it open. It works really well. Yes, you can comfortably carry a big gun like the Public Defender.Sorry, we won't be building these for anything other than the 2 1/2 inch version.*This holster will also fit the Poly Judge Public Defender.*All our holsters are made in the USA and are constructed exclusively of Hermann Oak Leather, and made from US Steers. Hermann Oak Leather Company supplies our leather and has been around since 1881. Nothing foreign touches our holsters. Grown, tanned, constructed and delivered to and from the USA. These are vegetable tanned and dyed with a water based dye so nothing will harm the firearm. Most holsters are made from leather tanned using a chromium based process. Not ours. Well I bought this holster but I wasn't sure because I was between a few, I really like some of the other holsters that would fit outside the waste band that also had slots on the holster for extra rounds, but I decided to get this in the waste band because the public defender isn't as wide as you think so for me it's my daily carry, also the holster is very form fitting to your revolver and small, it has a nice snug grip, perfect if you ask me, also the clip is very strong and hasn't failed me. Over all with the quality made holster and the way it fits and holds on the revolver and the way it's thin and sleek I give this 5 stars and would very much recommend this to almost all that need it, so wearing it around isn't a issue either, I'm 6ft 180bs and my pants are size 34" waste and I have no issues and it doesn't even look like I have something there, but make sure you do your research still.
