Pulsar Men's PR2003 Digital Chronograph Silver-Tone Black Resin Strap Watch Review

I love this watch! I'm a soccer referee in Seattle and I wear this watch 24/7.

Of particular interest to me are: water resistance to 100m (it rains a bit in Seattle, eh?), rugged construction (much previous experience with Casio G-Shocks), a simple, clean display (easy to read display - at a glance, at night, in the rain, with everyone yelling at you), non-glowing numbers (so players can't read time to play at a glance; lit displays suck the life out of your battery), and easy to use buttons. Otherwise, not a lot of gingerbread cluttering up the display, please. (Read weird time-keeping gewgaws, text on and around the watch face (my primary objection to G-Shocks), and whatever additional extraneous information the manufacturer chooses to include in the display.)

I read only one review of this product before purchasing this watch. The only critiques the gentleman reviewer had were: hard to read display at night, and a little larger and heavier than anticipated. You can push a button and light up the whole display in way cool neon blue. And larger and heavier than anticipated sounded good to me: I read easy-to-read display when unlit, and durable construction. Both benefits have proven true for this watch to date.

Pulsar is a division of Seiko. And this particular model is not their top-of-the-line Pulsar. It won't tell you your elevation. It won't give you direction (N-S-E-W). It won't display tide charts. It won't tell you about changes in the weather. You might even have to dig a bit to find it on amazon. My search was worth it.

Unlike the latest and greatest line of G-Shokcs, this watch does not receive a daily radio signal from NOAH in Boulder, CO broadcasting the correct atomic time to the millisecond, nor even automatically adjust your display for time changes (daylight savings time, east to west coast time, or whatever).

My point to you, good reader, is that there isn't a bunch of stuff on this watch that can go wrong, leech your battery, or break down just when you need it the most. Imagine being in the middle of a hotly contested match with players and coaches and parents screaming at you, and you look to see time to play and the screen is black. Nothing. My watch was communing with the ether. True story. If this Pulsar/Seiko proves to be as long-lived as my first Casio G-Shock (28 years) I'm a happy man. A black face and black plastic armband and stainless steel case make for an elegant and neutral color combination you can wear anywhere, anytime.

I just hope and pray the doggone thing lasts longer than a year like my previous G-Shock did before it went goofy on me. (The solar power cells died on me after a year/year-and-a-half's life. This equaled no recharging the bloody batteries. Too much bucks for too short a product life.)

The trick is to know the minimum features and benefits you need, and not get sucked in to the American attitude,"If some is good, more is better." Best of luck to you in your search for the right watch for you. For now, I've found the right watch for me.
