After moving from New England to Southern California, I decided it was time to get a thinner set of booties (no more 5mil for me!). There are so many things about this bootie, though, that are better than my old round-toe booties (which were also Rip Curl). The sole of this bootie is not a solid chunk of rubber; instead, it is shaped more to the part of the foot that actually touches the board, and because of this it's a lot more flexible. The split toe is "hidden", which keeps me from catching or stubbing my toe when I'm on the board. The velcro strap across the arch helps keep it in place, and helps keep water out (along with the strap at the top and putting your wetsuit leg over the bootie). Because of the flexible sole and the split toe, I feel very in-contact with the board. Not quite as good as being barefoot, but pretty good overall. The flexibility also means it's easy to get the booties on and off. These were also true to size - snug but comfortable.
