Rite in the Rain All-weather ACU Starter Planner Kit Review

The earlier reviewer has a valid issue. I have numerous Rite in the Rain items, and LOVE them. I carry one of their notebooks wherever I go and I really enjoy the fact the paper isn't wimpy. The problem with Amazon is they don't show any additional photos of this item and one must guess what is inside. This, like the last reviewer stated, may be just what I need...but how do I know? Amazon should do a better job with this description.

I am now going back and revising this review. With the above paragraph I had rated it one star for the description. Now that I have one in hand I have started using it as my main binder. The interior is similar to the other tactical binder covers, except this one has a permanently mounted 1 inch ring binder attached inside to the spine of the notebook. The only problems I'm having is the rings don't mesh together as well as it possibly could partly due to the small holes in the paper and the need to have very small diameter rings which don't mess well and the paper's holes being so small the paper can snag as you leaf through your notes. Still it's not that big a deal and it's not really an issue. I like this binder a great deal as it has more than enough room to carry all the things I need. It only came with a hardened sheet which is like a plastic page which I used a label maker to put my name on it for identification and a plastic ruler which didn't stay in the binder well. It looks like the sort of ruler you'd get with the Franklin Covey binders.

Overall it's a great binder and I'm now carrying it daily. I still like the smaller binder, however, as it has a better ability for me to leaf through the pages without snagging and due to the smaller diameter of the binder's rings (about 1/4 inch) I'm able to more easily write on both sides of the paper while in the binder. The larger binder's bigger rings get in the way with doing this so I have to pop the page out to write on the back side of a page.

The smaller binder wasn't perfect because it was smaller. The larger one has some things to get used to, but I've ordered a set of unmarked tabs to go into the binder and this way I can separate different subjects. The main benefit is being able to use the older information as a resource.

I don't use binders like these any longer for my calendar. Over the past few years I've carried a Palm Pilot, then a Blackberry and now an Iphone. I use this sort of thing for my contact database, internet, calendar, long-term note resource and phone. Paper, however, is still a good way to flesh-out projects or notes for a specific project or event. I had to step out in faith somewhat to use Rite in the Rain products and soon found I loved them. I have my Bible in one of their binder covers, the smaller binder in one of their covers and now the "Starter Planner Kit", along with smaller notebooks stashed in the car or a briefcase. Writing on Rite in the Rain paper, however, is more easily achieved (my experience) with a Sharpie and I use both Black and Red Sharpies for this purpose. I've found that ballpoint pens have not been as workable for the Rite in the Rain paper. But, I'm very happy overall with the products and it's a platform I'm going to be using daily.

I work as a Realtor and serve as an elected official. I'm always having to take notes due to a phone call, etc. You won't find me too far from a Rite in the Rain notebook or pad as they hold up, aren't wimpy and whatever you write on them will be there later when you need it instead of wrinkling up, smudging or falling apart because of an unexpected coffee spill.

Rite in the Rain depictions may need work, but their products are outstanding!
